ABSTRACT

The farmer who wants to tap the knowledge of the scientist can do so through the National Agricultural Advisory Service. It is as common to say that all reforms in the school must begin in the training college as it is that all fundamental reforms in society must begin in the school. Fortunately, many teachers are research-minded without having had any formal training at all, either in training college or elsewhere, and in a few districts they have, with L.E.A. backing, begun to build up the kind of organization which could become a model for the whole. The American authors of a recent report, noting that ‘universities play a periodically shifting role in the advancement of knowledge’, suggested that independent institutes to some extent have the advantage over American universities at the present time.
