ABSTRACT

A pyramid structure represents the organizational framework. At its base, the text reads, cultural enablers, respect every individual, lead with humility. The accompanying image shows a pyramid placed over an inverted pyramid's base. At the heart of the Shingo Model’s definition of enabling a culture is to create an environment that both inspires and engages its people. The impact of a poor culture characterized by a lack of engagement and ownership of one's contribution to work has been well documented. When an organization talks about the importance of culture and their goal of building a world-class culture of continuous improvement, they are really speaking of their leader's skills and capabilities as they relate to creating an environment that engages their people. The Cultural Enablers dimension of the Shingo Model contains two principles: Respect Every Individual and Lead with Humility.
