ABSTRACT

THE dangerous trends of thought which we tried to follow in the 19th century—the intellectual flight from reality, the romantic glorification of the nation, the senseless heroworship which had as its goal the impossible phantom of the superman, blind belief in progress, materialism, and a distorted socialism—all of these lead in the 20th century to the catastrophe which naturally follows them. The widespread chaos of the present day shows where these thoughts are bound to end.
