ABSTRACT

In this chapter, there is a focus on pupil happiness, resilience, expression of thought and empowerment. This chapter specifically looks at strategies for supporting neurodivergent pupil well-being and anxiety. This is a very much needed chapter in the current context of increasing mental health in school pupils. It looks at common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression in pupils, how this can affect engagement in school and progression within a learning context. Strategies and access to support and further direction for access to additional resources are outlined. There is an overview linking into adverse childhood experiences and trauma, and is considered with direction to further reading and support in schools and the role of the teaching assistant/learning support assistant.
