ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how cyber literary criticism developed in the context of the rise of the new media. It first gives a historical account of the early cyber literature and its criticism and describes how the two work and connect with each other. It describes the particular forms of online literary criticism and discusses their unique characteristics. It argues that netizens post plain and simple words online to interact with each other and with authors. The second section of this chapter focuses on how netizens use “we media” to comment on literary works in recent years, and the third section describes cyber literary criticism in paper media, mainly as academic publications and newspaper articles. Overall, this chapter aims to draw a large picture to illustrate the history and the current condition of cyber literary criticism.
