ABSTRACT

The author is relearning basic goals for reading and writing, starting with “grasping words.” She begins to gain new strategies for her significant word retrieval problems. She learns to turn words into fragments. She spends much time learning to write a complete sentence. Her biggest problem is her working memory, which is still greatly compromised. She begins to relearn the organization of material by listening to two to three-minute short stories on NPR. She is increasing her ability to take in new information. Further, in this fourth year post-TBI, she is attempting notetaking from these short stories. To assist with organization in her computer, where she keeps losing files, Rick refers her for assistive technology therapy for low and high technology assistance, which opens her world even more.
