ABSTRACT

The author has met a fellow traveler with TBI through Dr. Claudia Osborn’s book. She is developing a relationship with Claudia and responding emotionally as her story unfolds. As she reads the book, she realizes this is the first peer with whom she is sharing that she has a TBI. She is hoping to take strength from some of Claudia’s successes. She relates and identifies with Claudia in cultural terms of new values, beliefs, attitudes and experiences. Claudia articulates her daily thoughts, concerns and happenings. It is also reassuring to hear the not-so-great symptomatology. Somebody else knows her pain and suffering. She feels Claudia understands her fervent hope and adamant position that she will be back to her doctoral studies and trauma clients. She firmly believes she will get back to doctoring. However, she finds out Claudia does not. This devastates her. Claudia’s return to doctoring was her hope back to her old life.
