ABSTRACT

After TBI, the author had to relearn cognitive, behavioral and interpersonal skills. She had to learn how to learn, how to heal and to have faith again. This chapter sets the context for who she was before her TBI. It shows her personality characteristics and coping style. She reveals that her first car crash resulted in paraplegia. It illustrates how she transformed her life after becoming severely disabled and a wheelchair user. Losing, then finding, her voice and using it to help oppressed others is a recurring theme in her life. She also gives the reader an idea about her academic background, work as a trauma therapist and pursuit of her doctoral degree.
