ABSTRACT

The word mythology is derived from the Greek words mythos meaning story of the people and logos meaning word, which refer to the ‘spoken story of a people’ – stories of good and evil, suffering, traditions and values, origins, life, death and afterlife. The colonizer often forces its own language and cultural values upon its people. It is closely akin to imperialism which, according to Merriam-Webster, is ‘the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas’. The stunning success of quantum mechanics in explaining the microscopic world of atoms and molecules has led to an uncritical faith that it must also apply to everything else in the universe, including reasonably massive objects. The social sciences have traditionally relied on a classical worldview. However, quantum theory disputes some of the key tenets of the social sciences.
