ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates communication strategies relating to emergency childbirth situations, defining an emergency as when a birth is about to happen in an unexpected place or at an unexpected time that instigates a call for help. The chapter also discusses the potential for hypnotic communication when working with young children. The authors offer situations and examples of communication strategies used so that the reader knows the kinds of words and directives to use in an emergency. The mnemonic CREDIBLE, used throughout the book, is applied to help understand the process used in hypnotic communication. An exercise at the end of the chapter offers a true/false quiz to help think about the concepts discussed. The communication techniques are offered as an opportunity to facilitate the healing process only as an adjunct to support standard medical treatments. This focus allows anyone to augment their approach to include hypnotic communication while simultaneously performing the tasks of patient treatment.
