ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how a first responder should use directives while working with a patient on the scene of an emergency. The mnemonic CREDIBLE, used throughout the book, is applied to help understand the process used in hypnotic communication. The fourth letter of this word is the letter D, standing for directives. Direct and indirect directives are discussed including the importance of communicating positive messages that can push the conversation in a positive healing direction. An exercise at the end of the chapter offers thinking questions related to the chapter material. The communication techniques are offered as an opportunity to facilitate the healing process only as an adjunct to support standard medical treatments. This focus allows anyone to augment their approach to include hypnotic communication while simultaneously performing the tasks of patient treatment.
