ABSTRACT

Following on from the last chapter, Joe talks about the importance of your network of friends and family in supporting your recovery. Likewise, Joe’s friends and family discuss the things they have done to try and help him. There were times when that mean being there to listen to Joe cry, and pour his heart out. There were other times when that meant just carrying on as normal, and being an available friend. Joe also discusses the loneliness he sometimes feels. He discusses some of the ways in which he has tried to combat loneliness and reassures readers that, in time, this too can be managed. He goes on to say that as well having to accept your own change of circumstance, there is a big burden on your family and friends to do the same. He suggests that while the patient will probably have the psychological support they need, their family and friends might not.
