ABSTRACT

Building on the practical content within Part II, Part III considers why, specifically, Compliance matters and to whom, and why the activities of this role are now more important than ever before, addressing challenges arising in performance of the role and providing recommendations for its future development. In this chapter we consider the role Compliance plays and why, as a consequence, Compliance matters: not only to regulated firms but more widely. We will examine efforts currently under way to address the problems of the past, which are intended to support the shift in societal and business culture to one which is more ethically robust and reflect on progress in these areas. In doing so we will look at how Compliance activities can effectively support activity in this area for the benefit of the regulatory environment overall.
