ABSTRACT

The landing on the moon illustrates the role of organizations; they enable us to achieve objectives we cannot realize as individuals. The choice of the optimal organizational work form, given the characteristics of the assignment, is a fundamental firts step to ensure success. The difference between the standing organization and various temporary types of organizations is discussed, such as portfolios, programs, projects, task forces, incident teams, and crisis management teams. A systems thinking approach for defining project success is presented. Aggregated network planning and the diamond of success are introduced to describe project success and related artifacts: A glossary and a document structure defining the purpose of the various documents related to projects: Mission statement, vision, strategy, feasibility study, program blueprint, project brief, project management plan, and sub plans.
