ABSTRACT

In project management, methods like PRINCE2 and Agile are consistently referred to as methodologies rather than methods by project practitioners, academics, scholars, and researchers alike. The methodology is the systematic study of methods, their strengths, and weaknesses, including their application. The methodology is about the question: What meta-method will we use to determine which project management method works best given the assignment? The ultimate methodology question is: Could we have achieved more using less time and resources, provided we had used another method? Control can be achieved through direct and indirect methods. Direct control mechanisms manage the creation effort to realize the correct results within time, cost, and resource demands. Indirect or implicit control is about achieving maximum synergy between the project stakeholders. When the project team reaches a state of full synergy, the correct results can be obtained faster, with less effort, rework, and frustration. By controlling synergy, one implicitly has control over the other areas of the project. The components of the project method element comprises the approach, communication, coordination, tools, and techniques.
