ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the psychological effects of learning to game and describes two video games. The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020, and Stray was released in 2022. The author describes her struggles as a new gamer and her interest generated by the first game in what the alchemists called the “arcane substance,” something that transforms consciousness from a lower status to a higher one. Video games as art and the violence of video games are discussed. Looking at the structure of video games like a dream, some have a “fairytale” structure, while others have a “myth” structure in which there is the unfolding of one truth. The dynamic dialectic between movement and resistance is described. The use of gaming is applied to a problematic personal life situation.
