ABSTRACT

Setting healthy boundaries is one of the key elements of healthy sexual and romantic relationships. Healthy boundaries help us maintain a level of self-respect and communicate our wants and needs respectfully to our partner/s. Boundaries are like structures that safeguard our emotional and physical well-being. Without them, our emotional, psychological and physical resources are available to anyone, which can lead to chaos in our lives. Communicating assertively means advocating for our own rights and needs without violating the rights of others. Using active listening skills as well as clear and firm communication helps the peoples advocate for our self in a way that is assertive but compassionate. The most significant relationship education that children receive from their environment about relationships is from their primary caregivers. Vulnerability is an essential component of any healthy and fulfilling sexual or romantic relationship. In a sexual context, vulnerability means being able to communicate our desires, boundaries and needs with our partners openly.
