Sometimes parents, with good intentions, provide fear-based information to their children, such as “having sex can put you at risk of STIs. Some of them are not treatable and you can even die from them.” Or “you don’t want to get pregnant at 14, do you? Well, if you have sex there is no guarantee that won’t happen. Think about how that can ruin your whole life.”
