ABSTRACT

Thinking differently and not focusing on the problem, but on helping children learn a skill that cancels the problem, requires the ability to convert problems into skills, and this is easier said than done. Therefore, this chapter, the most extensive chapter in the book, contains instructions for using the skills approach with a large variety of common, and also some less common children's challenges, from sucking one's thumb to traumatic life experiences. The challenges discussed are organised alphabetically to make it easy for the reader to find information about specific problems they might be interested in.
