ABSTRACT

Back in Washington and in failing health, Zelda attempts to capture her life’s work by compiling a book of her essays and speeches that she has been thinking about for many decades. But writing about the present and future of non-profit theater—a subject about which she has many concerns—proves to be too challenging for her, and she is not able to finish the book in her lifetime. The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation establishes the Zelda Fichandler Award, and she gives her last public speech at its 2011 celebration. She dies in 2016 at the age of 91. Narrators include Howard Shalwitz, Laura Penn, Bill Rauch, and Todd London.
