ABSTRACT

Instrumental-technical forms of knowledge and expertise have obviously been at the forefront of the battle to control the COVID-19 pandemic – and this is necessarily so. The representation of the pandemic by the instrumental sciences of disease control as numerical data on a statistician's chart has also helped governments and media such as those in the UK to objectify and depersonalize its victims, rendering lives as “data” to be “balanced” and “traded” against other numbers. The purpose of education in state policymaking has been explicitly, energetically, and aggressively defined as fulfilling the goals of enterprise or entrepreneurship, boosting economic efficiency, in effect by optimizing the “employability” of graduates. The socioeconomic issues apply to whether insurance companies will reimburse for psychedelic assisted psychotherapy or, as often seen in history, only the wealthy will have access to psychedelic treatment.
