ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 traces the inception of the press relationships beginning with President Washington through to his successors. What began as a simple coverage and commentary task turn into the grinding jaw of policy. In sum, this chapter 1) shows how technology has changed the media’s relationships with the presidency, 2) explores how the media unwittingly facilitates the expansion of the presidency and the consequences, and 3) examines the problematic aspect of the presidency and entertainment.
