ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 examines how the presidency grew from a relatively weak foundation and how the wearing away of the Framers’ plans threatens its current durability. As the proceeding chapters suggest, the presidency has lost its moorings. In sum, this chapter 1) delves into the general hubris surrounding the stability of the presidency, 2) discusses how culture can change the meaning and why generational interpretations matter, and 3) explores why presidential expansion is the road to reconsideration and fundamental change.
