ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 introduces the idea of exemplarity in education. It builds on the metaphor of pearl diving by connecting it to debates in education and ethics about the role of examples and exemplars in education. Particularly, this chapter focuses on the role of exemplars. What is involved in the inevitable fact that some people (fictional, historical, or living) take on an exemplary function in education?
