ABSTRACT

In the case of the oath of office of the German chancellor, it can be the Basic Law and thus the German people or, in the case of the vow of a religious brother, God and the religious community. In educational discussions about a professional oath, reference is repeatedly made to the Hippocratic Oath, which makes sense insofar as the professions of a doctor and a teacher certainly have parallels. According to Ewald Terhart, in both of them ‘administrative control and supervision from the outside is neither sensible nor possible due to the structural peculiarities of the work processes’, and both ‘are very strongly based on relational and emotional work’.
