ABSTRACT

The children are the first and most important protagonists towards whom a commitment is necessary from a teacher’s point of view. In addition, from the point of view of school theory and practice, there are the parents, the colleagues, and the educational public, as well as the educational administration, society as a whole, and also oneself. With regard to the motivation of learners, an intrinsic orientation is preferable to an extrinsic (non-subject-related, e.g. grade) one. Learning progress can be achieved in both cases, but the sustainability of educational success is clearly superior with intrinsic motivation and also avoids ‘bulimic learning’. Parents are crucial for educational success. This is often discussed solely at the level of socioeconomic background and thus with a view to the parents’ income, but the connections are more profound.
