ABSTRACT

Summarising the discussion of the role of philosophy and philosophers in bringing about social and political change in this chapter, Murty states that Vedānta as “Metaphysical knowledge that leads to liberation” requires prior acquaintance with the meaning of science and technology. And further, it must relate to actual living. We need to renew our goals toward realising the values of national unity, integration and self-reliance. Philosophers must attempt “dialectical transcendence of religious and philosophical differences and disputes and try to attain an experience of the Supreme Reality.” Philosophers must also provide a critique of various ideologies and lifestyles.
