ABSTRACT
opec’s creation and development have been influenced by three major characteristics of the international oil industry: the highly concentrated structure, vertical integration of oil companies operating on an international basis, and certain features of the traditional oil concession system. An analysis of these characteristics will contribute to a better understanding of the relationships between oil companies and opec countries.
