ABSTRACT

The introduction to the book provides an overview of the authors’ research perspective, methodology, and terminology. The authors draw inspiration from the methodological approach known as “grounded theory”, which allowed for a fresh examination of research categories within the existing literature on the period from 1944 to 1989 in Poland, as well as the history of sports. The introductory chapter also includes essential historical information about the period under discussion, highlighting the social, economic, and political circumstances in which the idea of sport had the opportunity to take root in rural Polish society.
