ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the teaching profession. Topics include: the changing roles of American teachers; No Child Left Behind and the Every Student Succeeds Act: highly qualified teachers; the rewards and recruitment of teachers; teachers’ unions and teacher politics; a brief history of the NEA; a brief history of the AFT; teachers’ and union rights; teachers’ liability; and teachers’ private lives.
