ABSTRACT

A neighbourhood possesses any peculiar physical, social, cultural or demographic feature that differentiates it from the remaining settlement. Residents of a neighbourhood may have a similar type of families, income and education level. “Neighbourhood is the bundle of spatially based attributes associated with clusters of residences, sometimes in conjunction with other land uses”. People’s health is affected by their neighbourhood environment in the form of unsafe water and sanitation conditions, outdoor smoke from industries, indoor smoke from solid fuels, toxic exposures and haphazard patterns of development that adds to air pollution, traffic issues and other forms of urban environmental deterioration. Evidences are also found that child-friendly neighbourhood services are associated with overall development of children in terms of physical development, well-being and social capabilities. Rajalakshmi Lakshman et al. studied neighbourhood deprivation, individual socio-economic factor and its association with behavioural risk factors.
