ABSTRACT

This final chapter guides the reader through the stages of psychological development to integration and beyond integration to the establishment of new identity and the development of the transpersonal perspective. The writings of Jung, Teilhard de Chardin, and Pema Chodron are presented in regard to developing spiritual beliefs. Mindfulness meditation is briefly described. Case material provides examples of the path from strengthened ego to the transpersonal self in the terminally ill patient. The role of ego-strengthening including hypnotic age progressions, ego state therapy, and the therapeutic relationship can be very helpful in treating the patient facing death. Case material clearly portrays the results that can be achieved.
