ABSTRACT

This chapter illuminates several hypnotic techniques for developmental deficits caused by lack of love, such that patients can learn to activate inner resources of unconditional love which can be utilized in self-hypnosis. A discussion of creatively imagined renurturing experiences provides research and case examples of their use. The concept of an archetypal selfobject is advanced as one of the inner resources that can be activated with hypnosis. Conflict-free spheres of the ego that have been developed such as the Inner Advisor or Inner Self Helper are described as positive ego states that can be ego-strengthening. Frederick introduces the Inner Love technique as a projective/evocative ego-strengthening technique, along with a script and case examples. When to use and when to avoid use of these techniques is an important discussion.
