ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 mainly analyzes the theory of justice in the third generation of the Frankfurt School and its debates. With the rise of multiculturalism and identity politics, a traditional theory of justice focusing on economic dimensions is gradually unable to cope with the social development. The third generation of the Frankfurt School, represented by Honneth and Fraser, has turned to communication and recognition between individual subjects. Honneth emphasized the fundamental role of recognition concept in theory of justice, while Fraser, on the other hand, focused on both the cultural dimension, i.e. “recognition”, and other dimensions, such as the economic and the political.
