ABSTRACT

Making and maintaining eye contact is tough for some of us. As an introvert, I’m a little uncomfortable with it, and I tend to focus anywhere other than the person in front of me. I remember a few years ago when someone called me on it for the first time: “Why aren’t you looking at me when I’m talking to you?” I hadn’t fully realized that I did this until I was asked that question. Since then, I’ve tried to be a bit more aware of it and to at least make occasional eye contact when talking to someone, in recognition of this social norm.
