ABSTRACT

This chapter constitutes a collection of case studies that explore issues faced by new professionals in student affairs, with the scenarios designed to develop ACPA/NASPA Professional Competencies. Kat is a new student affairs professional at Dylan College. Her department is responsible for campus activities and programming, and, full of new professionals, her office culture is highly energetic and fun. During her first week on the job, she gravitates toward Alicia, who has worked at Dylan for the past six months. After completing her bachelor’s at Wisconsin Northern College, Allie was hired as an admissions counselor. In this capacity, she recruits potential students, attends college fairs, and coordinates on-campus visit days. Since Allie is a recent graduate, she is still close with many students on campus. Fresh out of graduate school, Zion assumed a position as coordinator of student activities at a very small liberal arts college.
