ABSTRACT

THE INTRODUCTION OF STUDENT learning factors in Chapter 3 places the students in your course front and center. After all, we design our courses for our students, the learners. In this chapter, we ask you to create a set of effective learning goals, which descri be what you want your students to know, feel, or be able to do as a result of taking your course. Learning goals represent the final destination in the pathway for student learning (see Figure 4.1), and your course’s learning goals will guide you to make other decisions in your course’s design. Therefore, specifying your learning goals is foundational work in the design process.

Principle 4. Effective learning goals serve as the final destination for your pathway.
