ABSTRACT

For most students, time spent in college is a step along the path to a career. Individuals on the autism spectrum have many characteristics that should be attractive to prospective employers. Employees on the autism spectrum have also frequently been reported to have excellent attendance, are less likely to engage in activities that interfere with their job performance, and tend to adhere closely to work rules and regulations. Many job interviews are designed to rate the applicant’s ability to work as part of a team and to solve any social problems that may arise in the workplace. Some students on the autism spectrum might benefit from the use of an alternative method such as an online career assessment test or a card sort procedure.
