ABSTRACT

This chapter explores making learners’ engagement activities more flexible. Readers will review how to make common interaction opportunities more flexible for students at different times and/or places. They will study four phases of engagement—preparation, set up, interaction, and wrap up—to consider the student experience during course activities. Then they will investigate how to make activity instructions clearer. Readers will also explore creating multiple communication pathways for students in flexible courses. This chapter’s case story describes how Maria Fernandez works with faculty to create team-based learning projects that offer flexible engagement pathways and prepare learners for workforce expectations. In this chapter’s activity, readers will create an outline for their flexible class activity.
