ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines strategies for supporting learners with content review in flexible courses. Readers will explore the benefits of clarifying expectations, creating effective prompts, and providing resources to support content review. They will study content review practices that work well within flexible course parameters and multimodal learning practices that involve critical content analysis. They will also be encouraged to use collaborative content review practices and/or tools that allow students to engage with classmates as they consume course content. In this chapter’s case story, Dr. Santiba Campbell shares what students at Bennett College say they need to succeed in flexible courses. In this chapter’s activities, readers will list content review expectations, prompts, and resources; select a framework for students to evaluate web-based resources; and explore collaborative reading practices and annotation tools.
