ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how to prepare and navigate physical and/or virtual environments throughout a flexible course. Thinking through the different environments where students will work leads to identifying those students’ needs and requirements. Setting up classroom and digital spaces for flexible classes may require technology support from a colleague or a campus team. Changing common settings on digital platforms can increase flexibility for learners. Using a course module template creates a consistent experience for students as they complete flexible course activities each week. This chapter’s case story shares how Brielle Erike has adopted the Peralta Online Equity Rubric to make her flexible courses more equitable. In this chapter’s activities, readers will create checklists to help manage the start and end of each class session, review virtual environment settings related to course structure, and revise your course module template outline.
