ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines strategies for making assessment more flexible. Reviewing assessments for alignment with values that support flexibility gives learners some form of choice, creates equivalent and accessible assessment experiences, and takes advantage of reusable elements. Identifying constraints that limit and opportunities that increase flexibility can guide selecting assessment strategies that work across modalities. In this chapter’s case story, Dr. Treya Allen shares how she guides faculty to create an assessment plan for Hybrid-Flexible courses. In this chapter’s activity, readers will check their assessment strategies to make sure learners can complete them successfully via different modalities.
