ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines strategies for supporting learners with flexible assessments. Strategies for students to monitor their progress include self-assessment and peer review. Including learners and learner feedback throughout the assessment process helps them understand expectations and increases buy-in. Non-graded assessments help students prepare in advance for class meetings or for reviewing the class session recording. Adopting and expanding the Transparent Assignment Template helps learners in flexible classes complete assessment activities successfully. In this chapter’s case story, Arcadia LeVias Chukwudifu shares strategies for faculty to redesign assignments to be more flexible. In this chapter’s activity, readers will use the expanded Transparent Assignment Template to create instructions for a flexible assessment activity.
