ABSTRACT

Critical mentoring provides a foundation that allows for an explicit connection between critical theories. Critical theories that help us to understand the intricacies of marginalization and minoritization and to gauge the levels of toxicity in the water and air are joined with conceptual components of mentoring; research-based elements necessary to providing valuable and relationship-based services for young people. Critical mentoring offers the fields of mentoring and youth development the ability to address strategically issues plaguing marginalized youth through the daily work they do. This chapter focuses on creating or restructuring organizations and programs so that they become youth centric. The participatory way in which critical mentoring requires us to work necessitates alternative models. One of the most important roles that young people can play in mentoring and youth development organizations is as an evaluator.
