ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses strategies we use to decide on how to best engage our students with the use of tools either within our learning management system (LMS) or outside of our LMS. It focuses on providing tips, tools, and templates on how to create a space that is positive for social emotional learning, which will include check-ins with our students. The book discusses the role of the virtual instructor as a team builder, learner, and collaborator—someone who connects with colleagues and peers to find ways to learn together and grow. It focuses on how to provide an engaging virtual space during synchronous sessions. The book focuses on building content knowledge specifically with asynchronous instruction. It focuses on how virtual instructors can create environments that engage learners and assess their learning in creative and alternative ways.
