ABSTRACT

Colleges and universities use various types of structured experiences to promote learning. They send students off campus for cooperative education work experience in business and industry. Unlike learning through virtual realities where learning experiences are simulated, these are real experiences that put students in a new or challenging situation that can result in various kinds of learning. Experiential learning refers to the use by colleges and universities of sponsored, structured, and guided experiences identified or established for the express purpose of contributing to the learning of their students. College teachers and related staff members play an important part in ensuring that learning results from the experiences provided by such programs as cooperative education, internships, civic engagement, wilderness challenge, or study abroad.
