ABSTRACT

College teachers are often called upon to help students develop specific skills. Teaching skills in higher education is not limited to basic skills. Psychologists first learned about behavioral learning and elaborated on it as a theory through a series of very clever experiments performed with animals in laboratory settings. Behavioral learning has its foundation in this theory drawn from laboratory experimentation. This way of learning can be used for different types of procedural or physical skills. When behavioral learning is used for the development of skills, it is necessary to get very specific about learning outcomes, and these outcomes are usually called instructional objectives. Learning occurs at that crucial moment when a specific action gets linked with a particular consequence. Managing feedback is one of the most important things a teacher does to facilitate behavioral learning.
