ABSTRACT

The key for creating a course design document is the process of deriving meaningful learning outcomes that are capable of giving everything that happens in a course purpose and cohesion. The course design document has a number of advantages over the traditional course syllabus. The course design document identifies the crucial elements of a course that all instructors who teach sections of it should incorporate into their versions of the course. The course design document is a blueprint of the course structure, not a map for sequencing activities in the course, like the topics in a syllabus are used to build a logical progression from one week to the next. It is important, though, to create a complete course design document that is considered the master plan for all sections. The course design document is for the benefit of faculty and administrators.
