ABSTRACT

Systems leadership theory focuses on organizational behavior within the context of a system. The leader's primary role is to facilitate the linkage of multiple subsystems, enhance system efficiency through policies with increased organizational communication, and develop a clear strategic plan allowing multiple subsystems to work toward a unified goal. Leaders must know how each subsystem and the larger system fit within the bureaucratic structure of macrosystems (e.g., local government, state coordinating bodies, state legislatures, federal governments). Nevarez & Wood –systems leadership inventory is designed to assess the degree to which a leader adheres to a systems leadership frame. For aspiring leaders, conceptualize how their actions in formal (e.g., work) and informal (e.g., home, extracurricular activities) settings may determine their degree of systems leadership influence. Two internal consistency estimates were employed to examine the reliability of the systems leadership inventory: split-half coefficient and coefficient alpha.
