ABSTRACT

Transformational leadership denotes a two-phase process. First, followers are guided and encouraged to meet expectations as identified by formal performance agreements (transactional). Second, because of the leader's ability to increase the motivations, morality, and shared meaning of institutional affiliates, achievement beyond expectations is reached. Transformational leaders are primarily driven by an astute awareness of individual and group psychology. These leaders guide institutional affiliates with a sense of care and support and are truly committed to the self-actualization of institutional affiliates in order to accomplish the institutional mission (serving the community, teaching and learning, student success, lifelong learning). Nevarez & Wood – transformational leadership is designed to provide a personal profile of leaders’ adherence to a transformational leadership frame. Aspiring leaders should consider the actions that they would take if they held a formal leadership position within an organization.
